Most first-year lectures are conducted in the PA Program classroom and the Yale School of Medicine's Jane Ellen Hope Educational Building. Some didactic sessions are also held at Yale-New Haven Hospital. The laboratory facilities in the Anlyan Center at YSM are used in the anatomy, microbiology and surgical skills courses. The program utilizes the Clinical Skills Laboratory at the University of Connecticut Health Center in Farmington, Connecticut for our standardized patient program.
Covering clinical medicine and its specialties, the pre-clinical sciences, public health, nursing, dentistry, and related fields, the Cushing/Whitney Library's collections are among the country's largest in a medical center, numbering over 380,000 volumes. More than 90,000 are source materials or supporting works in the historical collections, including journals and circulations being received regularly. The collections also include over 50 manuscript volumes of the twelfth through sixteenth centuries, prints and drawings, paintings, art slides, and museum objects. The Historical Library, a section of the Yale Medical Library, was founded by Dr. Harvey Cushing, Dr. John Fulton, and Dr. Arnold C. Klebs, whose personal collections form its core. Many units of the Medical Center, including the PA program, maintain their own specialized libraries.
Yale University's main library is the Sterling Memorial Library which, along with the Beinecke Rare Book and Manuscript Library, the Seeley G. Mudd Library, and the Cross Campus Library, contains more than 5 million volumes. The Kline Science Library has over 342,000 volumes and receives 1,166 current serials, many in the life sciences. Messengers transport books daily among these and other units of the Yale University Library, whose overall facilities and close to 9 million volumes are available to all members of the University.
Physical examination rooms are available for use by PA and medical students in the Harkness basement, as well as private gym facilities for the medical campus and lockers exclusively for the use of the PA students.
